
August 1. I was invited to Okazaki for the big annual fireworks festival. Special seating was arranged along the banks of the river that acted as a moat for Okazaki Castle. A friends parents reserve a few of these special box seats every year to enjoy the spectacle.

Our box was just 150 meters from the launch site, providing the best viewing spot. The test shots were fired off at 6;50pm....

And right from the start, things got off with a bang,... Literally! There were so many different types of fireworks,...one magnificent example fired off a huge horizontal ring with 5 smaller explosions along the lower rim, and two larger explosions towards the top end, creating a smily face logo in the sky!

Each separate fireworks was greeted wildly by the crowds....

These and the following pics were all taken with my mobile phone's camera, not an easy task considering the timing involved. It was a case of hit the button...wait,...click,... and hope for the best.
