A fine warm spring day,...took Saturday afternoon off and went for a short drive to the site of the ancient Suemori Castle. Nagoya was the centre of the period of Civil War, and there are quite a few castles and battle sites around the area. Suemori castle played a major part in the Battle of Okehazama 450 years ago.

The castle itself was destroyed long, long ago, but the ramparts and dry moats remain.

Just looking at the dry moat system is impressive, and gives you an idea of the layout of the castle, which lies about 5 Km from where I live in Central Nagoya...

A shrine now stands where the castle once stood.....

One of the great things about being a history buff in Nagoya is the amount and closeness of historical sites. If only the Japanese would take better care, and preserve these special sites!
