LUNCH AT OASIS

Beautiful day in Nagoya, 24 degrees with pale blue skies, and the city is mostly quiet as Japan enters it's Golden Week Holiday period. Bought lunch from the local bakery and had it on the grassed area of OASIS 21 in the city centre.
Seen from the air, OASIS 21 is a huge oval dish containing some 15 tonnes of water and suspended over an underground shopping mall and event arena adjoining Central Park.
It's only 200m south of my home, and so on days like today it's a quick walk for some fresh air (?) and sunshine.

TOUGH TEETH

My teeth have become hard
Last night I accidentally used the hair gel instead of toothpaste...
Thought something tasted funny,...but at least I'm keeping a STIFF upper lip,...

G-SOUL MUSIC MIX

In the PPF studios, producing a music mix with "Che" Suzuki of G-Soul hairdressers. Che and his team are participating in a hair fashion competition and show next month, and so we created a 20 minute Back Ground Music bed to back his show.
Snack time! Che brought along some strawberry roll cakes in thanks for the mix...

Yum!!

MAGIC

Ok, so it's pretty crappy magic, but I bet you wonder how I did it, right? ...oh, you don't care?...

TRIATHLON WORLD CUP, PART 2

MC'ing the Medal Ceremony. Winner of the ITU Ishigaki Triathlon World Cup 2009 was 29 year old Australian Courtney Atkinson of Mackay QLD. It was Courtney's 5th win at Ishigaki Jima, and quite a convincing win too ahead of Russian brothers Ivan and Denis Vasilie. Must admit, it was great hearing the Australian national Anthem, and seeing the Aussie flag raised over the arena.

Mens and womens medalists take to the podium. Gold to Australia and Japan! A really exciting race,...looking forward to next year's event! And to warmer conditions!

TRIATHLON WORLD CUP, PART 1

Arriving at Ishigaki Jima! The last time I was here was in March 2005 when I flew a helicopter from Melbourne Australia back to Nagoya Japan. (see ff2005.com) We arrived back in Japan landing in Ishigaki Jima for customs quarantine and immigration. We'd been out of Japan for over a month. At this airport I had Japanese curry rice for lunch. The taste of Japanese rice made me feel like I'd finally arrived home! Now, what to do for dinner tonight,...how about curry rice?
Next stop, Ishigaki Jima!

April 25, ANZAC day in Australia, for me it was up early and off to the airport. Flew from Nagoya to Naha in Okinawa and then on to the tiny island of Ishigaki Jima for the annual ITU Triathlon World Cup.

HAIRCUT 100

Friday April 24. Have a big event to do in Ishigaki-Jima, Okinawa this weekend, so I booked in early for a hair cut. Strange, but each time I go, there seems to be less hair to cut...

2CC CANBERRA RADIO REPORT

On the phone to Canberra's top talk radio station 2CC with Mark Parton, an old radio friend from Adelaide days, talking about the state of the Japanese economy, ...or rather, the lack of Japanese economy....

PANIC NOW!!

Thursday! Never could quite get the hang of Thursdays! Thursday 6pm is the deadline for my weekly column in the Yomiuri Newspaper, the world's most circulated newspaper. It's 4pm, I have 3 ideas written, but I'm still not 100% satisfied with any. What does one do in a situation like this? Easy, one considers the time required to write, the importance of handing in a good script, correct and proper Japanese language, and then simply, and professionally ...PANICS!!!!

CURRANT FAVOURITE

Lunch today was simple, RAISON BREAD!
Hard and crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, full of raisons, vitamin C and healthy stuff. Don't need anything else! It's my CURRANT favourite!

CAMPAIGN TRAIL

Sunday April 19, I went on the campaign trail with Yomiuri Newspaper covering the upcoming Nagoya Mayoral Elections...
I interviewed the three candidates while they were out meeting and greeting the public....
Watched their performances, visited their campaign offices and interviewed the staff....

The end result came out Monday 20th. Nagoya's elections take place next Sunday.

HELICOPTER WINE TASTING

Saturday April 17, I flew from Nagoya to Toyama Prefecture, a 50 minute flight to Henmi Ueda
where wine sellers, Village Cellars have their, ....well, cellars!
We flew over the snow capped Japan Alps, conditions were perfect, and from 6,000ft (1,800M) we could almost see the Japan Sea from Takayama in Central Japan.
On landing at Henmi Ueda, the guys enjoyed some wine tasting, while Richard at Village Cellars enjoyed pouring and explaining, and later selling some Australian wines
After wine tasting at Village Cellars, it was onto another winery, Yamafuji  in Toyama Prefecture for lunch and a 55 minute flight home. In all, 2hrs 5 mins flight time logged.

GARMARJOBAT

Friday April 17, went to see Japanese silent comedy duo, Garmarjobat!

These guys are absolutely BRILLIANT!
