Was in Osaka and Kobe recently for work, finished early, so instead of driving home to Nagoya, I went further west to Himeji, sister city of my home town of Adelaide, S.A.
Himeji Castle is a National Treasure as well as a World Heritage Site, it's been standing for over 400 years. Even today it's an impressive sight, and must have been mind blowing in the late 1500's and early 1600's when it was completed.
I visited Himeji about 15 years ago, but as it's about to be closed for 5 years for renovation and restoration from next year, I thought I'd get one last look before the overhaul. Looking forward to seeing it unveiled again in 2015.
