NARUMI CASTLE

Last on the day's travels was the Narumi Castle site in South Eastern Nagoya City. The castle was built around 1394. At the time of the Battle of Okehazama in 1560, it was held by the Imagawa Clan. The main citadel area is now a childrens' playground and park.
The back of the park area, sloping towards modern day Nagoya, is now a private residence.
The main stronghold of the castle, the keep was situated here. This is where the bulk of the fighting took place during the Okehazama campaign. The Warrior General, Okabe Motonobu successfully defended the castle despite his Lord having been killed at the start of the battle.
Narumi Castle was demolished some time after 1573. This stone marker was erected at the base of the old keep.

A small shrine now stands on the old castle site.
