ROOFTOP GODS

On location for TV Aichi, this weeks' topic is the rooftop shrines particular to old Nagoya.
The shrines were set up on the roof tops to prevent them from being damaged and so the gods would be able to look down on the townsfolk. Very few of these traditional Yane Gami (roof gods) remain, but one of the best preserved is on this 300 year old home in western Nagoya.
The home is still lived in by the same family, who still take great care of the roof shrine. Another interesting cultural and historical aspect to Nagoya! More on TV Aichi (Channel 25) soon!
