Saturday August 1. In Okazaki for the fireworks festival. The fireworks takes place on the riverbank that once served as the moat for the ancient Okazaki Castle, where the first of the Tokugawa Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu was born in 1542. The original castle served as one of the major regional fortresses during the late Civil War - Edo Period, and was demolished when Japan emerged from it's feudal era in 1873. The castle was reconstructed in 1959.
